Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter

This book was just wow!! Just WOW! Heads up it is not for the faint hearted. The language, the brutality and the subject can all be a little jarring, but wow! A friend recommended Slaughter's books to me a while ago but because of other book club books that needed to be read I hadn't been able to pick this one up for a while.

So this book is different to other books I have reviewed on here, but by no means not the type of book I usually read. It has been a while since I have read an adult thriller/mystery and while it can be tough to read I found I literally flew through this! The story follows Sara, a pediatrician/coroner who finds a woman brutally murdered in the diner of their quiet town of Grant County. Sara's ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey runs the investigation to finding the killer. Digging into this murder reveals just how twisted the killer was and the race is on to find him before he murders again. Meanwhile Lena, the victims sister and the county's sole female detective, is out to seek justice of her own and we find out more about Sara's secretive past.

I'm not really sure where to start! I LOVED this book. It was dark, it was gritty, at times it was outright disgusting and shocking (especially as a woman having to read some parts) but all of this made me want even more to find out what the hell is going on! Slaughter's writing is so addictive, her words flowed making it so easy to get through pages and pages in what felt like a short space of time. She is so apologetically open about the subject, not mincing her words or slowly getting to her point. She describes her characters so well that instantly you have made up your mind who you like, who you don't and you have an argument for why. You are invested in this story from the start which I find can sometimes take a while with other books/authors.

There are a couple of story lines that stray from the main 'whodunit' but even this just provides depth and keeps the steady flow of the book rather than submitting to a quiet chapter like some books can. It really felt like this had no stop gap, no time to rest. It was action packed the entire way through. I usually take longer to read a book of 400+ pages due to working full time and not living by myself. But I devoured this book in a week and I hadn't even read every day due to other commitments.

I literally have nothing bad to say about this book. I urge you to read it if you haven't already. I do want to stress that the subject and the language can be tough to read. Quite a few c-bombs are dropped and of course the subject can be a trigger for some. It also has a slight religious theme but not in the conventional way.. this is an adult suspense thriller remember. There was one thing I found while writing this that something wasn't cleared up, at least I don't think it was(!), but could potentially addressed in other books? I think not but never mind!

Not wanting to give too much away I wont say any more but looking online this is the first book of 6 so stay tuned for more Grant County and Karin Slaughter coming in future!
